The Village of New Hartford takes pride in celebrating Arbor Day by planting a tree each year. This program was the idea of village resident, Mr. Ray Belden, who loved the community and the environment. He took the initiative to present to then-mayor John Kazanjian, in the spirit of volunteerism, the dream that someday the Village of New Hartford would become a Tree City USA - and in 1983, Mr. Belden's dream materialized. Each year, villagers gather to celebrate and plant a tree together. Trees create clean air to breathe, a shady retreat to sit and relax, places for children to use their imagination and play as well as housing for essential wildlife. They also add beauty to our world.
Join us on the village green each Spring to celebrate Arbor Day and to honor our Tree City USA distinction!
